A&G Tax Consulting

Ireland–Spain tax advice

Spanish tax support for a move from Ireland, a return to Spain or an existing cross-border situation. We connect the residence timeline with pensions, property and investments rather than treating the move in isolation.

Who the service is for

Relocating, returning or retaining interests in Ireland

Irish-connected individuals and families relocating to Spain, Spanish nationals returning from Ireland, retirees and owners retaining Irish property or investments. Residence and income need to be reviewed for the relevant period in each country.

What we can review

Relocation and return to Spain

Review dates, homes, family and economic links, retained Irish income and possible treaty residence conflicts. A departure or return date is a starting point for the analysis, not a universal tax answer.

Pensions and accumulated rights

Separate State pensions, occupational pensions, public-service pensions and rights held in personal arrangements. ARF or vested PRSA withdrawals require their own review; the same withholding or treaty conclusion should not be assumed for every arrangement.

Irish property and rental income

Review the Spanish treatment of rental income or a proposed disposal, supporting costs, ownership and foreign tax paid. Irish compliance and any Spanish reporting remain distinct parts of the cross-border picture.

Investments and professional coordination

Review holdings, income, disposals and potentially relevant Spanish reporting obligations. We can coordinate a defined set of questions with your Irish professional after your authorisation; Irish advice is not automatically part of our engagement.

Documents after engagement

The final list depends on the work contracted. Do not send sensitive documents with your initial enquiry; we agree a suitable secure channel after confirming the engagement.

  • Relocation or return timeline and a summary of homes, work and family links.
  • Pension statements showing the arrangement, accrued rights, provider and proposed payments.
  • Irish property ownership, rental statements, costs and relevant tax certificates.
  • Investment records and prior Irish advice needed for the questions contracted.

Individual analysis

Irish arrangements and payments may have different legal and withholding characteristics. We do not promise that moving to Spain removes Irish tax or automatically eliminates double taxation. The treaty and the relevant tax periods must be checked.

Questions before starting

Does moving to Spain end Irish tax on every pension?

No single conclusion applies to every payment. Private occupational pensions, State pensions, public-service pensions and personal arrangements need to be distinguished, with residence, the treaty and any required Irish procedures considered separately.

Can ARF or vested PRSA withdrawals be treated like any other pension?

That should not be assumed. Prepare the arrangement terms, payment details and withholding records so the relevant Spanish questions can be reviewed. Irish treatment and any Irish refund or exclusion procedure need appropriate Irish advice.

What if I keep renting out my Irish home after moving?

Include the property, rental income, supporting costs and foreign tax in the agreed review. Irish compliance and the Spanish treatment are separate questions; keeping the property can also be relevant to understanding your wider residence circumstances.

Is the return date enough to settle my tax position?

The date is important but not sufficient on its own. We also need the relevant tax periods, homes, work pattern, family links and continuing income. An Irish departure treatment should not simply be assumed to produce the same result in Spain.

Can you coordinate the Spanish review with an Irish adviser?

Yes, with your authorisation and within an agreed scope. The proposal identifies the Spanish deliverables and any coordination. Irish returns, representation and the Irish professional's fees are not automatically part of A&G's work.

Scope and working method

A written proposal before work begins.

An initial enquiry assesses whether we can assist; it is not a professional tax opinion. A one-off engagement is possible without a monthly subscription.

What you receive

The proposal defines the deliverables. Depending on the work contracted, these may include a written report, reasoned conclusions and legal references, Spanish tax obligations and a timetable within scope. Simulations require an express agreement and sufficient reliable data; they are not automatically included in every consultation.

Scope and fees

We provide an individual quote before starting. Quoted fees include applicable indirect taxes. Payment is made in advance by bank transfer. Additional services are quoted and agreed before they are performed. No payment is collected on this website.

Communication in writing

Communication and professional advice are provided in writing. Telephone or video calls take place only when expressly included in the proposal. A translated page does not promise oral service in that language; the working language is agreed before engagement.

What is not automatically included

Tax returns, representation, ongoing compliance and external professionals are included only if expressly agreed. A&G provides the agreed Spanish advice; foreign-law advice and filings require the appropriate professional. Coordination with your existing adviser requires your authorisation.
